The Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP), which will take place from November 8 to 18 in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh and will bring together more than 200 countries, aims to reach multilateral agreements that will improve the fight against the climate crisis.
In addition to being based on the results obtained from the COP26 in Glasgow, this edition is expected to see poorer and more climate-exposed countries, mainly the African bloc, push for agreements based on climate justice. Alliances will be sought so that rich countries, the main polluters, contribute economic funds to help southern states transform their economies and adapt to the new climate conditions that arise (droughts, floods, monsoons, etc.).
In conclusion, the goal is to renew solidarity among countries to fulfill the objectives of the 2015 Paris Agreement, which established the substantial reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions to achieve a global temperature increase this century of between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius.
