The European Commission presented this week the much-awaited REPowerEU project with the goal of ending the European Union’s (EU) dependence on Russian fossil fuels before 2030 and accelerating the ecological transition.

This plan will also serve as a means of accelerating the deployment of renewable energies, diversifying the supplies from providers and improving energy efficiency.

The European legislative body aims to raise about €300 billion to help Member States divert their energy imports. Part of this economic amount will be allocated to financial terminals and liquefied natural gas pipelines.

Regarding renewable energies, the main quota in the energy mix is proposed to increase from 40% to 45% by 2030.

Thus, the Commission continues to work to meet its objectives of the European Green Deal, a growth plan set for 2050 where solar and wind energy will produce 66% of all of Europe’s electricity.
