It is expected that during today the European Commission will present a new set of measures to prevent the rise in energy prices, especially electricity prices.

Member States will be asked to reduce their monthly gross consumption, especially during peak hours established by each country. For now, it is unknown what the reference percentage of consumption to be reduced will be.

On the other hand, Member States will be allowed to set a limit on the price received by inframarginal technologies (renewables, nuclear and coal), although the amount has not yet been disclosed. This price limitation may affect bilateral contracts that have already been carried out.

Finally, measures are also expected to incentivize PPAs and to intervene in energy prices. This should serve so that small and medium-sized enterprises have easier access to bilateral contracts and also so that governments can establish electricity prices below cost price.
