The Government has approved the new package of urgent measures for energy efficiency and savings in the Council of Ministers this Monday, August 1st. This plan, coordinated by the Third Vice President and Minister of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, will affect mostly the private sector.
The package of measures, which must be prepared before September 30th, includes:
- Promoting telecommuting in the public and private sectors.
- Limiting the use of air conditioning to 27°C and heating to 19°C in public buildings, large department stores, cultural spaces, hotels, train stations, and airports.
- Turning off the lights in storefronts at 10:00 p.m. and public space lighting when not in use.
- Keeping doors closed when heating or cooling systems are in operation.
The Government has requested active collaboration from the public and private sectors to carry out the plan, which comes to deal with a possible Russian gas cut in winter and will be officially valid until November 1st, 2023.
